Great news! Starting January 1, 2009 Christina Jacklich Atkinson will be taking over the retail division of Special Products, Inc. "Tina" will take over from her proud father, Dr. Jack Jacklich, who will concentrate on manufacturing, research and developement, teaching and setting up foreign dealerships.
She and her husband Jeff and son Thomas will arrive in Kissimmee, FL Thanksgiving weekend. Jeff is retired from the US Air Force.
Tina has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, a Masters of Business Administration and closing in on a PhD in business.
Special Products will continue with business as usual with the exception that the friendly voice on the phone will be either Tina or Jeff instead of Jack.
July 2008
We are still presenting the "Automated Endo Seminar" in Kissimmee, FL five miles directly south of the Orlando Airport and 30 minutes from Disney's Epcot and Wild Animal Kingdom .
Now you can work in a family vacation during your learning experience.
Our toll-free telephone number is the same: 800-538-6836.
Now that we have left California the time zone is different and to make it easier to contact us we have changed our hours.
We answer the phones from 11 am to 7 pm. That means west coasters can call us until 4 pm California time. And now Hawaiians can call us from about 5 am to 1 pm instead of having to get up before breakfast.
We invite you to come, visit, and attend a seminar for the newest developments.
Follow some of the links and read more details.
Perhaps you have added a new associate since your original course, and it's time to see what has evolved since.
Do you watch your associate do endo the way he/she learned it in dental school and think "they could do that case a lot faster and easier"?
If so, hand them this letter or point them to this web page.
Do you have a new associate or partner who has an array of rotary nickle-titanium instruments, only to find that they still hold their breath every time they use them?
Are they avoiding or referring too many endo cases, not willing to admit the fear of file breakage keeps them from doing that next endo case?
Hand them this letter.
Even as an experienced user of our techniques you may find that you could use a few tips?
If you really want a good reason to come see us, give us a call.
(By the way, Kissimmee has a wonderful selection of reasonably priced hotels, so no need to feel bound to the Disney Resort hotels.)
What's new?
Quite a few things, and since I don't have room to describe all of them, I'll chose a couple.
Here are some tips to make life easier.
Still using your original Precision Endo Syringe?
This syringe is good and superbly reliable, but now there is much better (with the same excellent reliability).
Model CSYREX
Imagine using your original technique and not having to clean the cement from the syringe after each patient.
Further, imagine not having to worry about leakage or air entrapment because someone forgot to tighen the needle onto the barrel.
Or not worrying whether you have an adequate inventory of ball valves and washers.
And suppose you could pre-load cartridges and dispose of them when the root canal is filled.
Imagine no more.

It's now available.
If you have Model PES (1978-1985) or Model MM (1985-2003) you can make you life a lot simpler and your endo procedures much more efficient by trading either your old reliable Precision Endo Syringe or your newer model Multi-Mode Endo Syringe for the newest Fine- Cut Cartridge Endo Syringe X (Your assistants will love you for it).
We still offer generous trade-ins on both of the former model endo syringes, because we want you to have the best and newest syringe we make.
This is the new endo cartridge.
• It uses the same ball valves as you are now using AND they are in • You load it the same way you now load the barrel of your existing syringe.
The difference is that no cement gets onto or into the syringe itself.
When you have finished you simply remove and discard the cartridge. • Because it is a sealed system, there is no washer between a needle and the syringe eliminating one source of leakage and air entrapment. • Nor do you need worry about running out of washers.
With the cartridge syringe you need none.
• Cartridges come in the same 30 gauge size you are used to.
Additionally, they are available in 27 and 25 gauge.
Next time you need needles, all you need to do is order cartridges instead.
(In fact, if you decide to switch now we'll even take your inventory of unused endo needles in trade.) If you can pardon a little bragging here--virtually all of our dentists who changed to the new model syringe love it and tell us the ease of use makes the change definitely worthwhile!
Both the Multi-Mode and the newest addition to our syringe family, the Fine-Cut Endo Cartridge Syringe X can be used with the PDL lever housing flowing cement more rapidly for backfilling.
This versatility allows you to choose either the threaded plunger(for accuacy) or the onehanded lever actuated plunger (for speed).
This feature is only available on the new syringe.
The main clinical advantage of the new cartridge syringe model is that there is no possibility of leakage between the cartridge and needle because the needle is molded into the cartridge.
You simply load a cartridge/needle, use it and pitch it.
It adds to the cost a bit (less than 1/2% of the average root canal fee), but makes loading, preparing and clean up much less time consuming.
Furthermore, the ball valve comes with each cartridge/needle, and washers are no longer used.
(Although products are still available for those who have the two earlier models of the syringe.)
We hope to eventually convince all our users to switch to the new system, and thus we teach it exclusively in our courses and publications.
We no longer sell replacement parts nor do we repair the old endo syringes.
To make continued use of syringe endo a happy situation, we offer a 30 day trial and a $75 trade in on the old models (generous even to the point of buying back unused PCA needles).
PDL Intraligamentary Syringe News: Those of you who have a PDL Intraligamentary Syringe might not be aware that there have been design changes.
Mostly they involve better styling and ease of manufacturing.
(Read that "keeping costs down".) Some of the changes make the PDL more reliable in use and extend the time between repairs.
Our goal is to make them last beyond your retirement.
But, just in case, we do replacements with subassemblies which have the newer features installed.
Those design changes are:
We want you to celebrate our move with us, so through September and October, 2008 we will give you a $75 trade in on any gun-type "Ligmaject" intraligamentary anesthetic syringe you might own on a new PDL syringe (and a 30 day trial if you've never had one before.
You can even wait to send us your trade in to be certain you like the new syringe).
Fine-Cut Endo Contra Angle News: Do you remember when our seminar was taught using the old gyromatic contra angle?
"We've come a long way, baby" since those days.
Yet, we know dentists who are still using the giromatic (with a side-to-side motion.) We also know the dentists who are pulling their hair out using the rotary nickle-titanium filing (Did they really talk you into believing breaking files was ok?). We know we have a good solution.
It's back-to-basics, hand stroke motion, with good old fashioned medical grade stainless steel files.
(It's funny, we used to be the company that was "on the edge", now we have become the company that is on a stainless steel edge!) To help you eliminate the scourge of 'digital hyperkeratosis' we have automated the hand filing motion originally described by Dr. Herb Schilder.
Those who use it describe the difference as the difference between belt driven handpieces and air turbines.
This newer contra angle has been out for a few years now.
Here are some insights: • This contra angle is designed for use with any E-type air motor but works best with at least 50 psi and 20,000 rpm.
Of course it will work at lower speeds just not as fast.
(Some people are willing to trade speed for quieter operation.
After all, hand filing is only about 300 strokes per minute.) • We'll send you practice blocks with your order (be certain to mention you would like some).
As with any new instrument, it's a good idea to be familiar with the instrument's action before using it in your operatory. • The better the motor you have, the better it works.
We usually send out a low-speed, inexpensive 4 hole air motor with this contra angle (we know you like to keep your cost down, too), but we have dentists who have some very nice pricey units who tell us it hums very nicely on their units.
We will give you a $75 trade in on any gyromatic, rotary, or other type of endo contra angle you may be using, and a 30 day trial first so you can be certain you've made the right choice when we release and ship your order.
Continuing Education Centers Seminar Schedule.
I've always been told that I'm a slave-driver in my courses and now I've found that that is not an insult.
Many recent course attendees want all of the course in one day.
(Mainly I think so they can spend some time with Mickey Mouse.) So we have truncated and intensified the course into one long day starting at 8 a.m. and ending by 8 p.m. To make these hours more palatable we are now providing lunch (at noon) and dinner (at five pm).
And of course, those will be working meals.
Unless we get a large number of attendees, the courses will be held right here at my home in Kissimmee.
This might be an ideal way to train an associate or to introduce your dental son or daughter to our method. Courses are held about every three weeks, so call (800) 538-6836 or register on line.
We can arrange to work with your travel plans.
Hotel and Attractions: Disney World , Universal Studios , and Sea World are well-known attractions in the Orlando/Kissimee area.
This website has information on these attractions as well as local "color" attractions, and can help you find the type of lodging that is right for you.
We recommend you begin now to make reservations for the course prior to or after the ADA Annual Session if you plan to attend, as this event promises to have hotels at capacity.
